Discreetly, without fuss, essential oils bring certain well-being to our lives. Some people use them in aromatherapy, others in care. It is important to know how to choose them and not to confuse “essential oil” with a bottle of scent for the home.

Do you want to discover the world of essential oils? Good idea! Start by remembering one thing: the quality of these essences must be noted on its label with its Latin name, its origin, the name of the laboratory or distiller. If all this information is on the label or packaging, you can be confident that you have a good product in your hands.

Aromatic essential oils can make a beneficial improvement to your life. Considered a branch of naturopathy, aromatherapy has a preventive effect on health and helps to maintain a good mental and physical balance. Its proponents go further, claiming that it can also cure many ailments.

First of all, if you want to try it, you will need a diffuser. There are several types. The simplest is the perfume burner, which consists of a stand on which is placed a cup in which you mix oils and water, and under which a candle is lit. Purists reproach them for slightly burning the aroma.

Electric diffusers are safe devices that guarantee a good diffusion of aromas. Today, they are rivaled by ultrasonic diffusers, which are easy to use. A few drops are poured into a water tank which releases a light, fragrant vapor into the room. Some of these diffusers also act as humidifiers.

Properties of the oils

Each essential oil has virtues that can treat many of the ailments of daily life. In some cases, such as respiratory tract infections, it is advisable to use them as inhalations. They are also useful in the form of massage or friction. To learn about them and their use, many books have been written on the subject.

These essences help the body to fight against colds, coughs, rhinitis and ear infections, skin problems, stress, and nervous fatigue, sleep disorders, anxiety, motion sickness, temporary depression, lack of concentration, etc. Whatever the oil used, it is recommended not to exceed a quarter of an hour of diffusion. Attention: an essential oil may not appeal to everyone. You may be sensitive to a fragrance that will appeal to you but not to your partner.

You may also develop an allergy to certain oils. The best way to find out is to test them, taking into account the precautions for use and possible contraindications. Also, avoid exposure to the sun after applying an essential oil to the skin. Some aromatic molecules, including those of citrus fruits, can cause a reaction of the skin to the sun’s rays.
